hello Spring!

Hello friends and happy March!  I know there are many of you still very much experiencing Winter, but here in the South, it feels like Spring has Sprung!  And thank goodness!  This time of year is my favorite; seeing the light change, the emergence of daffodils and the many glorious, fresh shades of green in the garden.  This is what drove me to choose this beautiful 12×12 mosaic stencil of a dragonfly.

I tried to keep it simple and just used a few mediums with the stencil below and framed it using the luscious Champagne Gold Modeling Paste.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project.  The opinions I share are solely my own. This stencil reminded me of not only a mosaic, but also a stained glass window.  I chose my colors based on the thought that light would look amazing shining through glass with shades of blues, greens and violets.I knew I wanted to do something different for the outside ‘frame’ of the mosaic pattern, so I masked it off with painters tape.Using these amazing stencil brushes, I added layers of green Distress Oxide Ink, blending darker inks at the corners and lighter yellow ink around the outer circle as I worked inward.Leaving the center circle, I used gradating blues to work towards using a purple for the dragon fly itself.I used a combination of purple & pink Distress Oxide Ink for the dragonfly, trying to gradate the color of the wings. Finally, all the parts of the mosaic have been colored, so it was time for the big reveal! After using some cardstock as a mask for the previously inked areas, I added the new Champagne Gold Paste onto the border of this stencil. After all the ink and modeling paste had dried, I added a couple words that I printed and inked the edges. Finally, I mounted the entire piece onto a piece of black floral patterned paper and added some iridescent Stickles onto a few of the mosaic wings of the dragonfly.

Thanks so much for stopping by the Blog today!  I hope this inspires you to create a background or base for any kind of project, using one powerful stencil!
