Bible Journaling is one of the many way I enjoy using TCW stencils. I usually like to add subtle patterns to create a background with different layers of stenciling. Nevertheless, the beautiful designs The Crafter’s Workshop offers include patterns and textures that could stand on their own as the main focal point of a page. Today I’ll show you how I created this Bible Journaling page in the book of Proverbs, featuring bold stenciled flowers painted with large 12″x 12″ stencils.

First of all, I think it is important to let you know that the only way a Bible page can hold all these media is if you apply first one or two light layers of Clear Gesso Matte. The gesso will protect the delicate fibers of the page and will allow you to add several layers of paints and other media. Nevertheless, always be careful to layer your media little by little to avoid over saturating your page.

This is a very layered page, but I always try to not cover the words so they can still be read afterwards. What I do to avoid covering the words is use the heavy body acrylic paints only on the margin of the Bible and then use water reactive inks for the rest of the page. So far this technique works great for me. On the other hand, I love how TCW’s heavy body inks have a matte finish and also resist any watercolors or water based inks you layer on top of them. That property is what gave this page all those colorful undertones. I thought I’d prepare a video to quickly show you the process behind this page. Click below to watch.
