Hey there Crafty friends!! I am sharing a scrapbook layout I created to document my son turning 11…not necessarily a birthday page, but just a casual selfie that captured my feelings.
I used the two 12x 12 stencils below, along with some White Gesso to prep my white cardstock for using watercolor.
This is one of my favorite stencils, but I wanted to make a big impact and not cover up the design I loved so much.
I knew I wanted to use watercolors, so I added a light coat of the Gesso to the a piece of white cardstock, hoping to keep my background from buckling too much under the water.
I used VersaMark and some white embossing powder to heat emboss the stenciled borders of frames and dot to create a border to capture the watercolor with.
Using 4 or 5 colors of blue, turquoise, and purple I painted the darkest under the area I planned to place the photo and lightened up the paint out front that point.
While the paint dried, I used the two ‘Distressed’ circle stencils and inked the shapes onto vellum.
I layered the vellum circles under the photo combined with a few black foam phrase stickers.
The quote that kept coming to mind with this photo was this quote from Shel Silverstein in the classic book, ‘The Giving Tree.’
I mounted the watercolored background to a piece of black cardstock and wrote the quote within the painted frames and stamped the date.
Thanks so much for stopping by the Blog today! I hope this inspires you to create a background for any kind of project, using your stencils!

Love the page you made and the stencils you used ~ my question is at the end of the page the two stencils you said you used are actually the same picture when you click on the links. Can you tell me what the stencil is you used for the background – love it !! Thanks.
Hi Joyce!! Sorry for the long delay in my response! I updated the post to show the correct link for the main stencil. It is called “Riveted.” Thanks for your comment!
I’ve been re-reading this multiple times every day since you released it! Love it…going to use it on cards! I think with metal dies too. Beautiful watercolor with single photo.
