Take risks Art Journal

Hello Crafters!

Today I want to show you how I made this Mixed Media Art Journal page spread using a couple of Stencils and Mediums.

Supplies needed :

Note: I am a Design Team member for The Crafter’s Workshop; however, even though I use and love their products, all opinions are solely my own.

To start my art journal page I covered the entire spread with white gesso. I did this because the pages of my art journal are very thin, adding a layer of gesso will prevent the page from wrapping and leaking. I let the gesso dry very well, then I added modeling paste with the Stencil XOXO and the palette knife.

Then I took my craft sheet and I put over it some of my acrylic paints – I started blending them together to achieve some different shades of blue. With the colors I covered the page. I let it dry, then I toned everything back down with a lot of white. I let it dry again. As the paint was drying, I decided I wanted to rip the pages off. So I carefully teared off some pieces from both pages.

I then added color to the pages under my spread that luckily I had left them white. I used again a mix of greens and blues then toned everything back with gold paint this time. I used again the palette knife and the modeling paste to add some more interest, this time I used the stencil Art Is.

I set aside to dry well.

To highlight the background I decided to use a dry brush and some white paint. Then with the same brush I did the same thing but with gold paint. As I was adding colors and texture I decided to sew down the pages, it took me a while to figure out how I was going to do it, and let me tell you, I almost broke my art journal to do that. LOL. But at the end I was able to sew the pages — not all sides, but mostly.

I used stickers for the journaling part and then added one of my favorite photo from a trip long time ago. I love this photo as much as I love the song called the same way.
To add some more depth and drama I decided to use the black acrylic and to go around the sides to darken up everything.

And that’s all for today! I hope you had fun and got inspired!

We would love to see what you create with The Crafters Workshop Stencils and Mediums.

  2. oh your picture brings back sweet memories. I remember when we would take a road trip to visit friends up north that we would pass the road. it was always a highlight when we got to that point to see that sign and try to pronounce the name.
