2 Stencils, 2 Ways – Holiday Cards

Hi friends!  Fall is flying by and it is hard to believe it is already November!  I can’t claim being early to just about anything…appointments, deadlines, etc.  Except when it comes to Christmas, then I make the time!

So, with the Holidays quickly approaching, I am trying to get a jump start on cards and tags for special people in our lives.  I used two of the 6×6 repetitive pattern stencils to create a background for my cards.

These are the stencils I used below as well as the Heavy Body Acrylic Paints and mixed mediums from iCraft & ThermOWeb.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

I began by prepping my sentiment for the front of the card.  I applied the ThermOWeb Foil in ‘Old Gold’ & ‘Patina’ to the Foam Adhesive. I ran the foiled adhesive foam thru my die cut machine using a small word die I had.The ‘Patina’ Foil color is really unique, it looks like a very bright silver until after it has been applied and then takes on a weathered metallic bronze color…I planned to use the stencils in opposite applications,  beginning with the direct ink to paper application.I added darker inks toward the center of the pattern to give it more depth and interest. I used the same technique for the other stencil, blending green Distress Inks to go with the holly background.

Using the same stencils in a second way, I added Versamark Ink and a clear embossing powder those areas of the stencil that were inked.

After heating up the embossing powder on each of the stenciled areas, you can clearly see where the pattern occurs.

I used the same inks for each coordinating stencil.  However, instead of a direct to paper application, I added the ink to some clear plastic packaging and misted it with water.  I added the misted ink to the snowflake background.  The heat embossing over the snowflakes resists the watered down ink and creates the opposite effect from the the previous card background.

I used the same idea for both patterns and stencils to create a total of 4 different cards.

After the inks completely dried, I used a paper towel to buff the excess paint off the heat embossed areas. After all the inks had dried and buffed, I grabbed the word phrase die cuts, some metallic thread and put them aside.Using several colors of the Heavy Body Acrylic paint, I loosely added some paint to some smooth cardstock. I wanted to create a nice traditional red for the green holly background and a coral color to combine with the turquoise/blue snowflake background. After the paint dried. I used a small circle die to cut out pieces of the painted cardstock.

I added a loose mess of thread to the center of each die cut circle.  Gold thread for the ‘Old Gold’ foil die cut word and silver thread for the ‘Patina’ foil die cut word.  The iCraft Adhesive Foam sheet made adding the sentiment so easy and the perfect amount of dimension!

Thanks so much for stopping by the Blog today!  I hope this inspires you to create a project using several techniques for the same stencil.
