Layered Backgrounds for a Scrapbook Layout

Hey there everyone!  Today I am sharing my use of a couple 12×12 stencils to create a patterned background for a traditional Scrapbook layout.  During the summer, I have so many photos to scrapbook and document from trips or just kids out of school, I can always use inspiration!

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

My photo was great inspiration, but I paired it with these two large stencils below to add some texture and pattern for my layout.

Using this photo of my daughter in front of one of Monet’s paintings, I wanted to add something light in color, loose but yet structured.  I achieved that by layered two very different stencil on top of each other.

First, I used 3 misted on plain white cardstock and misted it very lightly and from about 3 feet above.  I wanted to create a very subtle, gradient color and I was really pleased with the results!

Next, I took some of the new Distress Oxide inks and did a little smushing technique to add random splotches of ink on the page.

I wanted to add color to areas that would be where the flowers in the other stencil would be located.  I tried to approximate it a little but kept it light and dabbed any excess water off.

After the inks dried, I taped down the large Sweetpeas stencil over my cardstock.  I used finger daubers since the stencil details are quite small.

Starting with the green, I covered the stems and vines and then added more color using a blue, to add some depth.

I continued this process, using the purple and pink inks in layers over the sweetpea flowers in the stencil.  I didn’t get all the flowers and vines exact, but it is supposed to be loose!I mounted the finished page onto another piece of patterned paper, adding some contrasting black to the layout.  I then mounted the photo and some alpha stickers for my title.

I finished it up with some journaling and the date!

Thank you for stopping by!  I hope this inspires you to layer some stenciling for your scrapbook pages.  Be sure to share your creation on social media, tagging TCW!
