My Name is Karenliz and I Like to Cut Up My Stencils

Yes, I like to cut up my stencils.
Using 12×12 stencils sometimes I only use one part of a stencil design and cut that part out. I save the rest of the stencil and either use it eventually or cut the rest of it.

This stencil I cut up because I found that I had two. I found the second one at the bottom of a drawer. This stencil is TCW157 Flower Frenzy designed by Jaime Echt.

I cut it apart so I had individual flowers and leaves. I did keep a few flowers and leaves attached to each other.

Then I decided to try something complete experimental, I used my heat gun (in a good ventilated area) to heat up the plastic to add more dimension to the flowers. I also used alcohol ink to add color to the plastic.

I put them aside and used TCW White Gesso to add a paper towel to a round canvas. I added the stencil TCW681 Bauhaus with TCW Modeling Paste and let it all dry.

I added white and blue paint to the canvas but not sure if I like it. I created the dark blue paint using TCW Heavy Body Acrylics in Blueberry Pie and Black Licorice.

I didn’t like it so I just added more white paint on top and added some glass beads in the white paint.

Remember the beautiful colorful flowers? Well I changed my mind and painting them blue with high flow acrylic paints.

Once everything was dry I added the flowers to the canvas with TCW Matte Gel Medium and added more glass beads.

Here is my finished canvas.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with stencils and mediums to create this project.

The opinions I share are solely my own because I do love to use them.

I hope you like my tutorial. Not everyone likes to cut up their stencils. It’s not for the faint of heart.

Thanks so much for stopping.
I hope you enjoyed my project.

We would love to see what you create with The Crafters Workshop Stencils and Mediums.
You can share it with us on our Facebook page, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest using hashtag #tcwstencillove.

  1. I have cut a few of mine up as well, although now I would say I probably am too rigid to do that again, I miss the days of reckless abandon in my art journey, when I first started I had NO idea what I was doing and everything was an experiment! how I miss those days I hate playing it safe in my journal, maybe I need to cut another stencil up!
