Spring is in the Air – thank you cards by ART BY MARLENE

Hallo there blog readers!

It is me,  Marlene Meijer-van Niekerk, from ART BY MARLENE…ready to share a new project with you!

This month The Crafter’s Workshop & Canvascorp are teaming up to bring you beautiful spring projects. As I needed to create some “thank you” cards, to thank family and friends whom looked after our house, animals  and kids while we went to The Creativeworld Tradeshow in Germany, I decided that this will become my project for today!

NOTE:This post might contain affiliate links, but the opinions and techniques I share, are solely my own.

This is what we are going to create:

thank you cards created with canvascorp substrates and TCW stencil, TCW687, Positivity, designed by ART BY MARLENE

finished ……”Thank You” cards

STEP 1:

Postcards/Thank you cards photo 1

I first started by selecting the “base” that I want to use in my project. I chose this great postcards paper that I received from Canvas Corp. I also decided that I want some dimention on my cards, so I will also be using the corrugated paper that I received from them.

STEP 2:

Postcards/Thank you cards photo 2

Cut your postcards to size with a paper cutter

STEP 3:

Postcards/Thank you cards photo 3

I selected these 2 gorgeous soft pastel tones to work in. I will be using this dreamy paper from Canvas corp, called: Blue&Ivory Dot Reverse(CCP2308) and Yellow&Ivory Lattice(CCP2857).

STEP 4:

Postcards/Thank you cards photo 4

I will be using Whispering Turquoise Americana paint as a base layer….just apply it intuitively with a brush, leave some white space. I like that this dries matte.

STEP 5:

Postcards/Thank you cards photo 5

I punched out shapes from my selected paper with a large circle punch and added bits of the circles to the back of my postcards. (use TCW Matte gel medium to stick them down)

We are going to use,one of my new stencil designs, TCW687s / Positivity.

STEP 6:

Postcards/Thank you cards photo 6

Spritz Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist through stencil Positivity. I used #22257 Capri Blue and #19332 It’s Yellow for this.

STEP 7:

Postcards/Thank you cards photo 7

With a paintbrush I added some of the Capri Blue Glimmer Mist around the circles and then let it drip….once this is dries it gives a gorgeous soft glimmer that really catches the eye against the matte paint and paper in the background.

STEP 8:

Postcards/Thank you cards photo 8

First add some dimention by adding torn pieces of corrugated paper(from Canvas Corp). Adhere it to the background with your TCW Matte Gel medium….don’t forget to give it a bit of colour. I just used my It’s Yellow Glimmer Mist. Now, add some decorative detail with a paint pen, by following the outlines of the sprayed areas.

STEP 9:

Postcards/Thank you cards photo 10

A stabilo all pencil helps to bring this look all together. Add some pencil lines and dilute it with water for soft shading.

STEP 10:

All it needs now is a text

STEP 11:

Add the text stamp of choice or do some handlettering.

  1. Marlene, always love your work and these look so fun. Great idea to do for those people in your life that do the extra special things for us. Thank YOU!

  2. Those turned out so nice and the 4 of them go together so well. They almost look like puzzle pieces fitting together in the final picture. If you had 4 more, you could wrap a ribbon around them and give them as a gift set to someone for their use.

  3. So cool!!! Marlene’s cards are absolutely awesome!! I love the color combo, the mixed media elements and all the incredible creativity that went into them!!! I just love seeing how all these different products work together and it always has gorgeous results!! Thanks for this fabulous inspiration today (and everyday)!! #tcwccbmatchup

  4. These are very doable, they don’t intimidate me into thinking I can’t make my own. I love seeing step-by-step posts, I learn so much, thank you!

  5. Love that stencil, your colors and what you did with the postcard paper…….would make love Pocket Letters too. thank you!

  6. These are so great! They scream spring to me. When I first looked at them I thought, ‘No way would I be able to do something like that.’ I usually think I can do everything, but these looked so layered & complex. Thanks for the detailed step-by-step. I’m done doubting & ready to try it out.
