A Little Sunshine on a Grey Winter Day

It is early December but I am already missing the lazy sunny days of summer. I love to look through my stencils when I am having a little creative block and let the cut images inspire me. I needed a little sunshine so I selected stencil TCW2153 Rejoice and made a little piece of sunshine for myself and to share with you!

Supplies:
TCW2153 Rejoice
Watercolors
Colored Pencils
Fine Line Permanent Ink Marker (I used a 0.5 Copic)
140 lb. Watercolor Paper

To start I centered the stencil on my page and used my 0.5 Copic marker to outline each piece of the stencil design. You can see the finished outline below in the next image.

Once the ink was completely dry I used my watercolors to fill out the design. I used a warm yellow mixed with a bit or orange to give the sun lots of warmth and glow. I also used color to give each of the areas a bit of depth by having a dark to light variation. I then added environmental type patterns to each of the areas of the piece. This adds a bit more personality to the piece.

Next up I used green, blue, orange and brown colored pencil to the piece to give it added depth and interest.

To finish up I added a bit of hand lettering and made a few of my lines a bit thicker to add a little line variation.

I am so happy with how this piece turned out and I have decided to put it in a little frame and keep it on my desk through the winter to keep a bit of sunshine in my life. I would love to see how you combat the grey days of winter, so be sure to share your creations or thoughts on The Crafter’s Workshop Facebook page or by tagging The Crafter’s Workshop on InstagramTwitter or Pinterest!
