Hello friends! It’s Gabrielle Pollacco here with you today to share my first blog post for The Crafter’s Workshop! I recently designed a line of stamps for TCW, and today I’m excited to share with you an art journal cover I made using the 6×6 inch ‘Organic Matter’ stencil and the 12×12 inch ‘Organic Matter’ mask.
I went with the larger mask style stencil for the front cover because I wanted the vein design to be a little larger, you can use the 6×6 inch mask if you would like to see more of the metallic vein design.
I used the 6×6 inch stencil on the back of the book. I was going for a simple look without a lot of 3D elements, just a bit of texture from the stencil, as the back of an art journal can take a lot of wear and tear.
I decided to film my project as I went along and create a video tutorial showing step by step how this journal cover was made. So if you have a moment, grab yourself a cuppa coffee (or tea), sit back and enjoy!….
I hope you enjoyed my little tutorial! Here are a few close-ups of the project, so that you can see detailing on this art journal cover….
I used a variety of mixed media products for the base of the project including a crackle paste for the base. On my stencil I used a Golden Molding Paste, but any texture paste will do the trick. I added a metallic sheen using Egyptian Gold H20’s and some Pearlex Mica Powder (all mixed media products I used are listed in the description area under my Youtube video).
I used a variety of Dusty Attic chipboard as well as some fun rusting medium on my chipboard pieces as accents on this journal cover. I thought the mechanical accents would work nicely with the Organic Matter stencil design. (Again, all the product info can be found in the description area under my Youtube video).
I hope you enjoyed my post today and I look forward to seeing what you all create using this stencil whether it be the stencil or mask (or both!). Thanks for stopping by the TCW blog!
