Cabbage Roses: A New Stencil from Designer Carmen Medlin

Flowers make the perfect cards for so many occasions and today I used the Cabbage Roses stencil (TCW514) to create a card and a tag.

I like to create cards that aren’t going to cost me an arm and leg to mail. Lets face it postage is expensive but there is something nice about receiving something hand made in the mail.  To make this card I used the stencil to create embellishments for the card. I cheat a little by buying pre-made blank cards on sale.

To create the focal for the card I use heavy gel medium through the stencil on heavy mixed media paper.  I let it dry overnight.

To add color I added water to Liquitex Ink and use it like watercolors. First I spray a little water on the roses and then add lighter shades of color and let it sit to dry before adding more color. The color spreads on it’s own. You can tip the paper to move the color but I like to be surprised by the outcome.

Once the first layer of ink is dry, I continue to spray water and add more and more color until I’m satisfied with it.

When its completely dry I cut out the roses and the leaves to create my card and tag. You can even use this technique for any project.  Here are my finished pieces.

Any of The Crafter’s Workshop stencils you can use with heavy gel medium and create tons of embellishments to save and use at a later date. It makes creating quick cards, tags, scrapbook pages, etc., easily.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
