Watercolour background with Stenciled details…

Hi there.

Lydell with you again today 🙂

I am sharing a ‘work in progress’ for today’s post.  It has been so much fun to play on watercolour paper, with a stencil, a palette knife, some crackle texture paste and watercolours, and LOTS of water.

I worked on 300lb watercolour Paper form Canson.  Its so nice to work on.  Really sturdy and put up with a lot of wetting and re-wetting!

I used a stencil, which had several patterns on it. (TCW491s) I just wanted some light simple design around the edges, not too complicated, as I knew I wanted to add lots of colour.

I also knew I wanted to keep the middle free as I wanted to draw on it.  So my pattern needed to stay around the perimeter!

TCW-Stencil-work2After the texture had dried I wet the paper with a spray bottle and added water colours with a thick paint brush..

I kept spraying water to make the paint move about more….

TCW-watercolour1 I dried it and re-wet and did this same process over and over and over, until I was happy with the result.  I will probably add even more after I have finished the drawing!

And after looking hard, I could see a girl….I added some colour pencil and a little white sharpie marker….So I will leave it there and maybe add more when I step away from it a bit….not quite sure it is finished!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Have a great week!

Lydell 🙂

  1. This canvass is lovely esp your drawing of the girl. Thanks for showing a closeup of the stenciling. I was I could find some different TCW stencils at my local Michaels. They always have the ones I have already.

  2. Thanks so much ladies! Have you tried getting them online Vicki? they are super light to post, and if you found them on sale, even better!!!
