This week, we are partnering with Viva Las VegaStamps for a whole week of creative inspiration using stamps and stencils. 🙂
I created a vintage-inspired mixed media canvas. Please scroll down for a quick tutorial.
I started by cutting down a 12×12 sheet of Blue Fern Studios patterned paper to 6×6. After distressing the edges, I adhered it to a 6×6 canvas then applied a layer of clear gesso all over. Once I decided on the images I wanted on my canvas, I covered the rest of the paper of Liquitex Super Heavy Gesso.
Then I went over the whole area with a used tea bag for an aged look on the paper. Different types of tea will give you different “stains”. The one I used is Rooibos which has an orangey tinge. Lighten with water and dab with a rag/paper towel till you can your desired effect.
Next I added some stamping with Viva Las VegaStamps.
Then I used The Crafter’s Workshop TCW 485 Coptic Impressions stencil with Liquitex glass bead gel. Once that was dry, I added Silks Acrylic Glazes to blend in with the colours that were on the patterned paper.
I adhered a Prima resin frame which was “aged” with Silks Acrylic Glazes. I added some Crackle Glossy Accents to play up the whole vintage vibe.
And added some paper blooms to match the design on the paper paper.
Hope you’ve enjoyed my vintage-inspired mixed media canvas.

Great project!! Love it!
A lovely clourful canvas. I’m a tea-fan, I’ll have to put aside some teabags and start experimenting!
Lovely canvas! Amazing how it looks as a whole, it’s not clear anymore what the original image was, or which part is added, it just blends perfectly to a whole.
