Faking the Watercolor Look

Hi there!

Do you ever admire the look of a water colored picture? I certainly do but I haven’t really tried to free hand paint a scene before. Well I decided to try and “fake” a water colored look for my layout.

I started with TCW499 Koi Pond which is a beautiful, scenic stencil.

Lay it down over watercolor paper. You might want to tape the stencil and paper down so they don’t slide or move while you are painting. Get your watercolors ready and start painting! I worked relatively quickly and in color schemes (all the greens and aquas first for the lily pads and red, orange, yellows for the fish). The idea is to not get too much watercolor paint get under the stencil or you will loose some of the details (like my fish in the upper right). When the whole stencil is filled, lift up the stencil and you get something like this:Miae Rowe_TCW_Lily Fairy (1)

Next I took Twinkling H2Os and created splatters over the lily pads. Then I replaced the stencil and loosely doodled around the shape of the fish. This created my final background to which I added my photo, embellishments and stamping….page done!
