Adding a little grunge with stencils

Hi Everyone, Beck BT here again with another layout, and I hope you enjoy my share today!  I just love playing and experimenting with different mediums and my stencils.  Today I thought I would share a great technique for using gesso with stencils.  This application can be used just as well with paints as well.  I created the background to this layout using gesso and the Sketch grid template.

Usually if you try to stencil with a more fluid meduim like gesso or paint, it will bleed under the stencil and create a mess, but it might be that your project calls for it.  Well today I thought I would show you how you can achieve stencilling with these mediums without creating a big mess.  I have even created a video for you to enjoy seeing the process in action, so sit back watch and enjoy the process of my short little video.

As you can see the gesso gives a grung like feel to this layout.  The gesso was perfect as it lightens off but still has a chalky feel.  By using this application I was also able to tie the background in better with some additional gesso and texture paste as well.

I can’t wait to try this application out with the new Coptic Impressions stencil as I can see it is going to be just perfect for a layout calling for a more circular feel!

I hope you enjoyed my share today and experiment with your stencils too 🙂

Happy Creating!
