TCW Summer 2014 Stencils Are Here!

Hello all! Like the title says, the new stencils are here! There are so many different, unique, cool stencils and I’ve been having such a grand time playing with them! Here’s a summer layout I made using several different ones.

MiaeRowe_TCW_Le Galion (1)I wanted to create a whole beach scene for this photo from a recent vacation. I loved that there were many aquatic themed stencils from the new collection. And of course the wonderful thing about stencils is the almost endless ways you can adapt even non themed designs to suit your project, using your imagination!

I used TCW496s Mini Sea Creatures along with TCW500s Mini Nautilus to create the underwater scene…how beautifully they worked together! When I saw TCW493 Folk Art Flower and TCW493s Mini Folk Art Flower, I thought of the sun and a sand dune….themed, non themed, so easily used together!

Let me show you how I made this page. I started with Core’dinations 110 lbs. Heavy Weight Smooth Cardstock (it stood up very well to all the mixed media and embellishments I put on it!). I stamped randomly on the background using solvent based inks (so the images would not blur when I added water). Next I painted most of the cardstock with watercolors, no gesso.

Once the page was dry I wanted to add a light textured look so I sanded the cardstock with Core’dinations Sand It Gadget. Can you see the lighted scratched lines?

MiaeRowe_TCW_Le Galion (7) Next, I used TCW493s Mini Folk Art Flower and molding paste to create a sun.

While that was drying, I used TCW496s Mini Sea Creatures and TCW500s Mini Nautilus along with my Faber Castell Big Brush Pens to create the underwater scene.

Once the sun was dry I replaced TCW493s Mini Folk Art Flower stencil over the raised sun and colored it yellow with the Faber Castell Big Brush pens blending with my fingers.

Lastly, I used TCW Folk Art Flower stencil along with sand paste (here is a link to my youtube video on how I make the paste) to create my “sand dune”.

Once the sand was dry I added my photo and embellishment, some more paint here and there and my page was done!
