Stained Glass with Stencils

Hello. Karenliz here. I was playing in my art room and by accident dropped a stencil full of gel medium on an unopened stencil which gave me a wonderful idea. Stained Glass.

I didn’t have any glass to try so I tried the technique on the packaging.  I took the packaging and taped down the Mini Flower Garden (TCW275) stencil so it wouldn’t move on the slippery surface.

I mixed black acrylic paint with gel medium and used that through the stencil. Once it dried it gave me a nice raised area to color in.  Using alcohol inks I painted in the stencil design. You will notice I wasn’t very neat about it but that’s what playing is all about.

Doesn’t it look great in front of the window?  If you had an embroidery ring I bet this would look really cool hanging in front of a window. No glass, no embroidery ring so the next best thing was one of my art journals.  I fussy cut the flowers and attached them to my journal page with gel medium.

I love the way you can see the words through the image. If anyone tries this and has it hanging as stained glass, we would love to see it!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
